Harlem Mother and Child
I walked every day by this old growth tree on my way to my Harlem studio. It stood beside a basketball court before it was removed. I felt as if it was a friend I passed along my way. I made 4 paintings and a drawing of this piece. One of the paintings sold to a New York art dealer who came to visit my studio one evening. It suggests a mother carrying a child on her arm. That is how I have visualized the image.
